| Films of any genre, language, format, anywhere in the world is a highly creative effort that speaks one language – the language of expression, as seen by individual film makers – generally a reflection of their own influences, social conditioning and circumstances.
While a full-length feature film is the most popular commercial format the world over, the short film medium is the best format of creative expression and in the recent times, growing in acceptance, viewership and commercial value. Short films, documentaries, ad films and special videos afford a window to narrate a story or a thought in a concise timeframe, thus challenging the creative mind to come up with the best. An increasing number of talented and young filmmakers across the country are choosing short films as the medium to convey their filmmaking and narrative skills. While the commercial feature film market is internationally well organized and structured, very little has been done to encourage and get together the immense talent and potential that the short films and documentaries offer. There is a gap between talent and the marketplace and it is time there is an initiative to bridge that gap.
‘Short Cuts' is an initiative by a group of film enthusiasts who believe in the power and versatility of the medium and are convinced that given the right avenues to showcase and network, the commercial viability will match the creative efforts, acting as a catalyst and thus spawning a larger industry, wider audiences and dedicated infrastructure.
‘Short Cuts' aims to provide the most ideal springboard for just about anyone – from amateur student filmmakers to professionals.
‘Short Cuts' has chosen the city of Hyderabad as the location to launch its first chapter - one of the many chapters planned all over the world. Hyderabad happens to be home to one of the better organized film fraternities and has one of the largest pools of new wave creative filmmakers and an appreciative audience.
Since this initiative is to encourage new and young talent and falls in the public interest domain - like-minded organizations, individuals and advertisers will support the venture.
‘Short Cuts' screenings shall take place on the second Sunday of every month. The intention is to give filmmakers and the audiences a different ambience and encourage them to discuss creativity and business in a conducive environment with an accent on networking with national and international constituents relevant to this medium.
‘Short Cuts' is registered as a not-for-profit, non-political, non-governmental body under the A.P. Societies Registration Act with Certificate no.663 of 2005.
